Milk・Does A Body Good, or Does It?

Milk・Does a body good. Or does it? According to Robert Cohen,
author of "Milk: The Deadly Poison", milk is responsible
for allergies, colic, colitis, earaches, colds and congestion in
young children. A recent search of the Not Milk website
provided some appalling facts.
Each sip of milk provides growth hormones, fat, cholesterol,
allergenic proteins, blood, pus, antibiotics, bacteria, virus
and more! In the past, the Food and Drug Administration
(FDA) only allowed a small amount of antibiotics in milk. FDA
scientists recognized that consumers should not be drinking a
fluid containing antibiotics. However,
in 1990, the antibiotic residue in milk standard was increased
by one hundred times.
Today, farmers are permitted to inject their animals with
increased levels of antibiotics.
Additionally sixty percent of America's dairy cows have leukemia
virus. Milk contains a high amount of hormones, such as
pituitary hormones, steroid hormones, hypothalamic hormones,
thyroid and parathyroid hormones. When we drink milk we are
taking in the most powerful growth hormone naturally produced in
our own bodies. That hormone is called Insulin-like growth
factor-1 (IGF-1). This hormone is identical in cows and human
beings. Research indicates that protein in milk destroys the
insulin-producing beta cells of the pancreas, causing diabetes.
The frightening side effects of milk consumption are not limited
to children either. Twenty-five million American women over the
age of forty have been diagnosed with bone crippling arthritis
and osteoporosis. According to the United States Department of
Agriculture (USDA), in 1994 the average American ate 586 pounds
of milk and dairy products. These females have been drinking in
excess of two pounds of milk per day for their entire adult
lives. However, calcium in milk is not adequately absorbed and
milk consumption has been suspected as a probable cause of
osteoporosis. Even more frightening is that milk has been given
as one of the primary reasons that an estimated one out of six
American women will develop cancer of the breast. For more
information about the milk we drink, visit Robert Cohen's "Not
Milk" website at www.notmilk.com or purchase the book "MILK: The
Deadly Poison" by Robert Cohen (ISBN # 0-9659-196-0-9).
GENERAL HEALTH STATUS IMPROVES WITH CHIROPRACTIC
The Fall 1999 issue of the Chiropractic Research Journal
(vol. 6, no. 2) reports that patients under chiropractic care
reported an improvement in their general health status after
receiving chiropractic adjustments.
The study used the RAND (SF-36 measures areas of physical
function, bodily pain, general health, vitality, social
function, emotional and mental health) Health Survey and the
global well-being scale (GWBS) as measures of improvement.
Researchers also measured changes in misalignment of spinal
vertebra by using X-rays before and after the adjustments. The
GWBS survey was completed at each visit.
The SF-36 survey was given at the beginning of the patient's
care, at the four week mark and at the end of the care plan when
their initial complaint reached Maximum Chiropractic
Improvement, (MCI).
Chiropractic has long maintained that a body free of
interference is able to function at and maintain a higher level
of health than one that is afflicted with vertebral subluxation.
RESEARCH:
CONNECTION BETWEEN BODY'S GENE REPAIR SYSTEM AND INNATE IMMUNITY
A study published in the December 8, 2000 issue of the journal
Cell reports the discovery that an enzyme normally involved
in the body's genetic repair system is also involved in the
body's innate immunity, its first response against outside
invaders such as viruses, bacteria and toxins. The finding that
the enzyme, DNA-PK provides a link between the body's genetic or
DNA repair mechanism and its innate immunity confirms that the
two systems are activated when the body encounters invading
bacteria, viruses or toxins.
The body's innate immune system, when functioning
correctly, identifies invaders by their structure and very
quickly, within minutes, produces a large amount of natural
killer cells to deal with the invader. The adaptative
immune system will memorize this contact with an invader and
over a period of days will gear up its attack with B- and
T-cells. The adaptative immune system is also responsible
for attacking the invader again if the body encounters it in the
future.
In commentary, there is no question that the body has an inborn,
innate immune system that is capable of protecting it from both
internal and external dangers and we are happy that medical
science is finally "discovering" this fact. Since its inception
in 1895, chiropractic has held that this system will work
correctly provided there is nothing interfering with how it
functions. Chiropractic Wellness Care will make sure that your
innate immune system will function to the best of its ability,
keeping your body in a higher level of health・・Dr. Acosta
